Gray? Why?

I should have seen this coming: first it was the stainless steel appliances. Then it was the gray manufactured flooring and the gray slate fireplace.  The gray walls, the gray window treatments followed.

Gray makes no statement. It is neither black nor white, red or blue. Gray's only talent is making other real colors pop, like purple and gray, or blue and gray. Gray lends nothing, stands for nothing, is neither loud nor proud.

Now I see gray cars. Car, people! And I have one question to ask: why? Isn't  life a little too gray already?

I can see a conspiracy theory in the inundation of gray in our lives.  The government wants us to get used to seeing gray so we won't  notice when they steal all the color from our lives. Joy is not gray. Happiness is not gray! Until recently gray was a background,  something to splash with the vivid colors of our lives being lived.

 Why be gray?
